Exciting News!!!

Wow – I can’t believe that it’s been so long since I’ve had a chance to write! Somehow this year has gotten away from me and I just haven’t had a minute to stop and take a breath. That time has finally come though, and I’m savouring sitting here at my kitchen table, looking out at a gorgeous fall day as I write this. The leaves are turning (and falling – I’m going to have to get the rake out later today!), the summer furniture has been put away, and it’s feeling like it’s getting to be time to pull out my winter coat and gloves.

Since I last wrote, a lot has happened. We’ve published a new catalogue, and also now our newest Christmas Wish Sale Flyer. We’ve also had a trip to Toronto for the big Toronto Creativ Festival where I spent 3 days meeting with many of our wonderful customers. I say “I” instead of “we” because unfortunately, Keith came down with the flu just when we arrived there and ended up spending the entire show in bed in our hotel room! Fortunately, he was on the mend by the time we had to pack everything up, but it meant that I was running even more than usual at the show.  I was thrilled that both of my daughters were able to join us in Toronto so that I had lots of help from them. In the stores, we’ve received lots of new fabrics, notions and sewing machines, and we’ve also added lots of new classes to our roster. Whew!

The most exciting news of all though is that Keith and I were thrilled to meet the newest addition to the Atkinson family. On October 13, just a few days before we had to leave for the show in Toronto, Aiden Walter was born. Just like every newborn baby, his grandparents and parents believe that he is the most beautiful, most perfect baby on the planet! Part of my “busy-ness” this year has been planning and sewing for his nursery, and I’ve had a lot of fun doing it. The best part though is when we just get to sit and cuddle him and to marvel in how blessed we are and how wonderful life can be. Fortunately for Keith and me, my son and daughter-in-law live not too far from us and we are able to see our new grandson fairly often.

Last spring, when Pam and I were at the big “Quilt Market” trade show in Salt Lake City, it seemed like there was one huge theme of babies – couldn’t have been more appropriate for me at the time. When we were there, the people at Prym-Dritz shared with us a new line-up of products they were working on releasing this fall called “Babyville Boutique”.  This is a diaper sewing program for colorful and fun diapers that use modern conveniences like plastic snaps and adjustable tape (EZ Adjust Tape™). The designers have written two books: Cloth Diapers Made Easy!  and Baby Essentials Made Easy – full of some very cute projects! Each is 60 pages of full colour step-by-step instructions. The diaper pattern, which can be used to make a variety of cloth diapers styles, is bound into the 60 page full color instruction book “Cloth Diapers Made Easy!” which includes sewing instructions for diaper covers, and a variety of diaper styles including a pocket diaper, snail shell and more.

We have the entire line of “Babyville Boutique” products on order and are expecting to receive them by the end of this month. Watch for them to be posted online within the next couple of weeks. You’ll finally have one source for quality, coordinated diaper making supplies! Included is the PUL fabric you’ll need (10 darling prints and 13 solid colours), Coordinating Fold-Over Elastic, Snaps, Snap Pliers, Embroidered Appliques, Embroidered Labels, Coloured Hook and Loop Tape (EZ Adjust Tape™) and Buttons, plus the aforementioned Cloth Diaper Sewing Book and a 60 Page book “Baby Accessories You Can Make.” The PUL Fabric is available by metre or in packages of three coordinating designs, with each diaper cut being a generous 21″ x 24″. Needless to say, soon I’ll be sewing lots of diapers!

Well, that’s it for today. I know that I’ll have some more news for you soon!
